Hours: Full-time (4-day working weeks, Mon-Thurs)

Salary: £42k-£56k pa

Location: Remote position, with 1-2 meetings in Bristol/London each month

Reports to: Snr AI Engineer

What is Good Boost?

Good Boost is a multi-award winning social enterprise that delivers digital therapeutic exercise programs for people living with musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions like arthritis and back pain. We offer a land-exercise app (on users personal phone at home) and an aquatic-exercise app that we deliver in partnership with local leisure centres throughout the UK. Role summary

The role of AI Engineer is for someone who’s excited about breaking new ground in community health & wellbeing and developing and delivering digital technology for exercise-rehabilitation and wider wellbeing services. You should be experienced in experimental engineering & development, prototyping & testing, technology deployment. Having an understanding and experience in the leisure sector, swimming pools and aquatic technology would be an advantage.

Your role will include being a part of the team developing Good Boost’s pioneering aquatic technology, including our patented digital aqua paddles to create digital aqua exercise and aqua rehab services. The role also includes the development of other pioneering AI rehabilitation technology for personalised therapeutic exercise prescription. You will be an active member of the technical team in the development of this technology from paper-prototype through to active delivery of the technology for customers.

You will work closely with the Good Boost Development Team (clinicians and engineers) to ensure our products and services reflect the needs and wants of our existing and future customers. In addition to your engineering skills you should have strong analytical, project management, performance evaluation and problem-solving skills.

Main Responsibilities

  • Work within the clinical-technology team to develop pioneering hardware and software technology, with a focus on our digital aqua exercise / aqua rehab paddles
  • Work with a multi-disciplinary internal and external team to develop, test and deploy the digital aqua paddles
  • Take a pro-active role in the development team, actively contributing towards the development of our tools, services and platforms
  • Contribute and support with the continual Improvement of the Good Boost AI clinical system through machine learnings and improving our clinical algorithm
  • Learn from participants, users, people living with an MSK condition and pool users how to best design hardware form and function (human-centred design)
  • Plan, write, maintain, test and document code for Good Boost platforms. Code will adhere to internal coding standards
  • Support the Operations team with technical knowledge and understanding for the deployment of Good Boost technology and services for customer
  • Work closely with the wider Good Boost team including Operations and Clinical teams to ensure effective development and delivery of our service

Knowledge/ Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years post-graduate experience in a technical role with experience in hardware product development and software development orminimum 5 years experience if no University degree
  • Experienced in JavaScript, Python, SQL and CSS (or other relevant programming language)
  • Experience of GitHub, Heorku, MongoDB, Azure and AWS is valuable
  • Ability to write clean code, following the best procedures and standards
  • Able to work collaboratively on engineering projects, using project management and product development management software to run sprints and scrums.
  • Ability to determine technical operational feasibility by evaluating analysis of software/hardware function
  • Ability to document technical solutions through the use of documentation such as flowcharts, diagrams or code comments
  • Ability to develop software/technical solutions by studying information needs; conferring with users; studying user expectation and requirement, systems flow, data usage, and work processes; investigating problem areas; following the hardware/software development lifecycle
  • Evidence of fast prototyping experience
  • Experience and knowledge with machine learning / neural networks
  • Experience of computer-vision is desirable, but not essential
